Center for development of rural and deprived regions in Iran

The office for deprived regions affairs, a subsidiary of the President’s Office and under direct supervision of the President, is responsible for the follow-up and coordination of affairs in deprived regions in Iran. This office was established in 1999, and with the particular attention of the President and the cabinet managed to sufficiently improve indices in deprived regions (Depravity Index) in key areas of infrastructure such as electricity, drinking water, rural roads, educational facilities in three levels, telecommunication, and health services.

Considering the taken actions, reduction of levels of deprivation in the formerly deprived areas, and improving infrastructure and development of these areas in the past years, the need to notice other rural affairs, in 2011, the responsibility for rural development was assigned to this office. Thus, with the new title “center for development of rural and deprived regions of Iran”, and with a holistic approach to rural problems, the area of activity of this center extended to all villages countrywide. The purpose of launching the center for rural development was policy making, planning, monitoring and implementation of rural development programs under direct supervision of the President.

Since the establishment in 1999, the directorship of this office was assigned to Mr. Besharaty J, already, advisor to the President and director of the center for rural and deprived regions development.

This center has had extensive cooperation with the Nooravaran Salamat Charity since conception of the project. The identification and selection of a suitable location for this charity project was carried out by this office, and then necessary arrangement is made with the county council and universities of medical sciences of the county in question, and the site will be visited before transfer of mobile clinics. In these visits, some members of the Nooravaran Salamat Charity executive team accompany senior managers of the center for rural and deprived regions development, and local authorities are informed of the technical and infrastructure needs of the project. The necessary follow-ups by the center and the charity are conducted to prepare these needs, and consequently, the clinics are deployed according to schedules, and begin to treat patients.
